Review:
Thank you to NetGalley and North Atlantic Books for providing me with a copy of this title to read and give my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own,
Given that I would some day like to teach yoga, I'm trying to consume literature that will help me achieve this and also become the best instruction/yogi I can be. But I also know that such materials will help me in my practice in general so I was happy to read this book and absorb the information it provided.
I loved that this book explored yoga beyond the physical practice. Given the many limbs of Yoga, I think people often get stuck on just the physical. But that is really such a small part of the practice. There is so much mental and emotional instruction that must occur. This book dose a dive into those things.
The author does a nice job showing how the eight limbs of yoga can be incorporated into daily living, rather than just happening when you are doing your yoga practice. If you read the sutras, you know that yoga is not happening just when you are thinking about it but it's happening always. It's a way of life, not just a practice.
I do suggest journaling while reading this one. Not only to perhaps identify areas where one might feel they need to put in some work, but also to see what feelings come up as you explore the concepts Roundtree puts down on paper.
This book is a great resource for anyone who is looking to live their lives with a bit more of intention. The philosophies contained within are easy to understand at any level. I enjoyed how Roundtree was able to incorporate real life applications for the tenants of yoga.
This book is a great addition to anyone's library: yoga teacher, yogi, or someone who just wants to live their life with more purpose.
