This is my first book by this author. My expectations were pretty high after seeing so many people post about her previous books and how good they are. I should honestly know better than to follow along after high praise for a book. Although, it seems this book may not be her typical type of story so perhaps there's is something to be said there.

I wanted mystery and suspense. Maybe a little thrill. What I got was a little bit of mystery and just family drama. Not what I was expecting at all. The overall plot is the FMC's daughter being kidnapped and her adventure to get her back. The book started out promising, though I wasn't a huge fan of the narration technique of the author. There was A LOT of telling in this book. The narrator told us all about her family and what she felt she was going through but the author never really showed me any of this. Add to that the mystery of the kidnap being solved pretty quickly and the rest of the book the characters searching for said kidnappers and it just wasn't the mystery I was expecting.

The book is told in alternating POVs from the main character, Sophie, and the kidnapper. At first, I thought this might prove interesting. But really there was almost no need for the second POV. I'm not really sure what it added to the story. We could have easily seen the situation through the FMC's POV. Though the kidnapper is not who you think it is at all, so that was a surprise.

The pacing of this book was SO slow. I had to push so hard to get through the story. I kept waiting for things to happen but nothing ever really did. It mad it so hard to stay engaged with the story. I had no desire to really keep picking it up but I did because I thought maybe the mystery would turn out to be something mind blowing. Hint: It wasn't. Plus all the side stories the main character was telling really didn't lend much to the overall story. They did give some background to the characters but it wasn't anything that really made me like the story or characters more.

Add to this that I had no connection at all with the characters nor did I even care about them and the story was just a flop for me. I just could not suspend my disbelief enough to really see the story as being true. Everything that happens with the police, the FBI, the lawyer, jail, it just made no sense to me at all.

The was a pretty fast read with short chapters but overall I just wasn't impressed. It didn't make me wan to run and read other books by this author at all. I'm not sure if I will take a leap to try another book by this author.

Another mystery/thriller from Lucy Foley that kept me on the edge of my seat. The opening night at The Manor is meant to be spectacular. The land has been transformed into an oppulent high end resort where no expense has been skipped to provide people with the highest quality vacation. But when the secrets of the past slowly start to unearth themselves, you find the guests and those working at The Manor are not all who they seem!

Foley has a way of taking multiple point of views and just making it work. I always worry I won't be able to keep everyone straight. Or that having more than one point of view in a mystery/thriller will take me out of the story. But, in reality, having all the points of view, plus journal entries, really helps the story take shape. And it lends to the author's ability to slowly reveal what is really going on and the truths the characters have to face. I also loved how each person in this story is not quite who they seem. They all have more than one identity or something they are hiding that effects the overall thrill and mystery of the story line.

The flashbacks with the journal entries really give great background to the characters in the story. It's easy to see how they have changed over the last 15 years and what the actions of their teens set in motion as they turned into adults.

I will say I did figure out a few of the mysteries along the way but this didn't detract from me enjoying the story line, I loved the inclusion of the local folklore. In all honesty, I felt like this book might actual take a turn into magical realism with how Foley presented the legend. But I know that's not really her style.  And part of a mystery is to leave you wondering how such magical type things are happening when there's not real magic involved.

Foley has a knack for creating a tension that keeps you turning the page in a book. As each character develops you find yourself wanting to know just exactly how they fit into the story and what their background is. I also loved the shorter chapters. Short chapters are always something I appreciate. I feel like they really help push the story along and they kept my attention more so than longer chapters would have. And her ability to set the scene and vividly show you exactly what The Manor looks like is great. I could practically feel and smell the ocean air and the woodsy scent throughout reading the story.

Overall, I think this might be my favorite Foley book so far. I liked the idea of how things unfolded and there were definitely some things I was not 100% expecting. Lucy's fans will love this one as much as all her others.

I have fallen in love with Noelle August. I loved Boomerang. Just the idea of the book made me happy, and reading it more so. And then August wrote Rebound and I was floored. I absolutely adored the relationship between the main characters in that book. So, of course, I jumped at the chance to read this one by August because how could I go wrong, right?

I will say I totally fell in love with Grey in the previous books. Sexy and just a bit of a bad boy, he was right up my ally. Of course he comes with his baggage, things in his past that he hides and doesn't want to reveal to anyone. But I needed to know why he was the way he was, and who he was! I mean, who doesn't like the mysterious younger brother? I adored his parts of this book. His slow reveal of who he is and why he is the way he is was my favorite part of the story. I couldn't help but want to hug him during so many parts of this book. He's portrayed very realistically for me.

I liked that we got to know Skylar in this book. She comes with her own baggage. And she certainly never thinks she'll fall for the immature brother of one of the wealthiest guys she knows. She certainly starts out strong, enough to know what she needs as far as a job and isn't afraid to go after it, despite not having the experience in the acting field. But then she slowly declines into something of a doormat. I didn't like that she was so wishy washy about her relationships. She just could not make up her mind who she wanted. Too many potential love interests for me to really believe the final outcome. It's like she was completely turned around from the woman you meet on the first page.

This book started off with a bang. The attraction between the two main characters, and the chemistry, is obvious. I love that they lose themselves in each other in a single moment and that is where I thought they book would take off and show me this never ending chemistry. But the relationship is very slow building. And there weren't as many romantic instances in this book as I would have liked. As a matter of fact, I found this book to be two stories: Grey's and Skylar's. But I never really felt it was their story. It didn't build enough of the relationship between them to make me really think they had a connection.

Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this book as much as the previous books. The writing was still great, but I just felt like the book didn't address the romance between the two main characters. I understand they needed to build a friendship first, but I didn't see enough of them together to really get this. Overall, I wanted to be more wow'd but I wasn't. That doesn't mean I won't immediately pick up anything this author writes in the future, because I know future stories are going to be fantastic!

I'm a huge Cora Carmack fan. I've read every book she's published and I don't plan to stop. So given the opportunity to review any of her books, well, you can imagine I jump right on it. And I knew this installment of the Rusk University series was going to be amazing. I wasn't wrong!

From the get go I loved Mateo Torres. Who couldn't love a guy who liked to take his clothes off in any situation? He's full of humor, which makes him that much more sexy. And of course he's a football player, so, yeah, what more could you want? But he's also got this sensitive side that you never saw coming. When I first met him in All Lined Up, I knew there was more to him than meets the eye. I wasn't wrong. He's so much deeper than anyone could have imagined.

And in steps Antonella Deluca. Nell is totally unexpected. The girl who has her whole life mapped out and then realizes that perhaps she might be missing out. So what does any good nerd do? They make a list. And Nell's list is nothing if not interesting. From partying to having mind blowing sex, she wants to experience life before she starts her neatly planned life. What she wasn't expecting was one guy named Mateo Torres who seems to be the opposite of anything and everything she knows. He's crass and uninhibited. Nell is absolutely my favorite female Carmack character to date. Probably because I could relate to her so well. Much of my college years were spent worrying about lists and checking things off!

As always, Cramack gives each character a uniqueness you might not expect. And she creates a story that's not only about college life and football, but also about what happens after graduation and where people see their lives going.

I love that Nell and Torres are kind of thrown together. They are pretty much total opposites, but it seems to work for them. And you can tell they never expected each other, or to fall for each other. Torres has been a player, but Nell changes how he thinks. And Nell's life has been mapped out, not including a tornado of a guy who throws her entire life into a loop.

Of course both characters carry their baggage. Though I thought Mateo's baggage was a little more hefty than Nell's. He was much more broken by the events that happened in his life. His story had my heart aching. I wanted to wrap him up and take all his pain away. To fill his voids and show him what a wonderful person he really is. But he didn't need me for that because Nell filled that roll perfectly.

And this wouldn't be a Rusk book if we didn't see the other characters reappear. What a great supporting cast. I want each and every one of their stories. I hope Cora gives them to us!

I don't know how Cora does it. Each story gets better and better. Ok, I will say that Silas still has my heart. But Torres has certainly pushed his way in and made a nest there. Carmack has created a sweet and sexy read that leaves out all the angst you often feel with new adult romance.

If you're looking for a great romantic read that will have you turning the pages so fast you'll be sorry when you're done, then this is the one!

As with all Jennifer L. Armentrout books, I was very excited to jump into this book! I loved Roxy in Stay With Me and really wanted to see what her story was all about. And it didn't disappoint.

Roxy was by far my favorite character in this story. She's quirky and fun and just the slightest bit awkward in an endearing sort of way. I love that she is not afraid to be who she is. I also love that she has this never ending crush on a guy who she's pretty much grown up with. It's sweet and really added to my love of their relationship during this story. I will say she is a bit angsty, but what girl wouldn't be when the crush of her life practically tells her he's sorry their one night of passion ever happened?

Of course Reese doesn't really see it the same way Roxy does. But what girl, blinded by those words, can really bring herself to think otherwise. Now Reese is this sexy as all heck cop/military guy who has no qualms about letting Roxy know that he wants more than friends between them. But even with this admission, Roxy has a hard time getting into a groove with him and letting it all happen without things overshadowing the relationship and casting doubt down on her.

Armentrout's writing continues to remain true. Each story has it's own unique twist to it. I liked that she included a few side stories in this one, so we're not just getting all romance and hot, passionate sex (although those things never seem to grow dull!). Roxy deals with things from guilt to shame to fear, all with Reese beside her (even if she doesn't recognize it for what it is). Add to that her holding back from him what truly happened during their one night together, and you get a girl who really needs to sort out her issues and move forward.

I will say that many of Roxy's decisions are clouded and seem to come from left field at times. But I think this is just a side effect of her not really having her head on straight. She is kind of floating through life and doing the things she thinks are expected of her, rather than what she wants to do, and I think this often clouds her judgement and reactions. In the end, she shapes up and realizes that she needs to go for what she wants, because that is the only true thing that will make her happy.

I will say there were elements of predictability with the story, but I think that is true of most NA romance. And I knew there would be an HEA, because Armentrout doesn't do anything else! So there's always that to look forward to with her books.

Overall I enjoyed Roxy and Reese's story. I will certainly be picking up the future books in this series!

I want to thank William Morrow for providing me with a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for free has in now way altered my opinion or review.

I will tell you that I really adored the first book in this series, Boomerang. It was cute and pulled me right in. I loved the relationship of the main characters. So when I heard this would be a series, I was super excited. And when I heard who the main characters were in this book, I really lost it because I could not wait to see how it would all come together!

We start the book seeing the familiar face of Adam, owner of Boomerang. We met him in book one, though his role was gigantic, it was certainly there and I found him intriguing for sure. I wanted to know more about him and his secrets. I was not disappointed. August really threw us for a huge loop in this book with Adam's characters. He's damaged, almost beyond repair. And he's so complex, choosing to keep himself tied up inside himself and not allowing anyone to see what's really on his insides. But that all changes when he meets Alison.

Alison is Ethan's ex-girlfriend. I wasn't a fan of her in book #1, though we didn't see too much of her. But just from her background, I went into this book not loving her character. I thought for sure I wouldn't like her. But authors sure do have a way of turning things around when we're not so keen on a character, don't they? The one thing about Alison is she's career focused and wants to get the job done. But when faced with doing something she feels is wrong, will she try to please her father or will she give in to what she is feeling for Adam.

When it comes down to it, things get out of control, and turned upside down, forcing both Adam and Alison to re-evaluate what they may or may not have together. August throws in complications that cause both characters to become untrusting of each other. I actually found myself screaming at the book "NO!" when situations presented themselves and the characters didn't have all the facts straight.

I think what I loved most about this book was the couple was truly an unlikely pair. They are not a couple I would necessarily choose to be together. But they really do work. They are both smart, dedicated and driven. And while you might think this would make for stiff competition between them (and at times it does), that competition is what actually pushes them together and causes them to work harder to fight for what they want.

This is a book about family loyalty and how sometimes those we want to trust the most are not really who we think they are. And trying to please them can lead to heartbreak and guilt. Told from alternating points of view. you will get just the right amount of angst and swoon to love the characters and the story. It's well paced with just the bit of drama you need to make you root for the couple to come out winning on the other end. Fans of Cora Carmack and Jennifer L. Armentrout will love this series!
