I received a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. 

I've been a JLA fan for a long time. I always love how she can pull me into a story and then keep me there wondering where she'll take me. So of course I was excited to see where this one would take me. And it was different than those I've read from her in the past, which I was so happy with! And of course it was the return of characters I have met in past books in this series. I love seeing the different stories unfold, especially when it's characters I wasn't so sure about their story! 

Damaged Jillian. Yup, that's a theme for so many NA stories, though the characters were a bit older in this story so it was definitely closer to adult. But she was certainly damaged. And unsure of herself. Which of course gave her lots of room to grow and change and come into herself. I always like to watch this transformation. The girl that really turns into a woman and realizes her self-worth.

And Brock, the mystery man. He was certainly a mystery in past books. And he was still a mystery in this one, that slowly unfolded. We get snippets of his past and how he rose from nothing. We also see his loyalty to Jillian's father and why it's so important to him. And the way in which he inserts himself back into Jillian's life after so many years, showing her their friendship and love could not be changed no matter how much time they were apart.

There's something about two people who had many bumps along the road and then come together and find their path that just makes you swoon. I love a love story where the characters have to go their own paths before they can find the one that brings them together. Their lives struggles make them stronger for it. Their lives struggles make them understand more what they would truly miss being without that one person that completes them. This is that story.

Friendship, passion, chemistry, and humor all rolled into a tale of heartbreak and redemption. I will say this is one of JLA's finer works for me. I'm sad to see the series end but I know Armentrout will wow me again in the future with more of her sassy, fun, and broken characters who find their way and teach me life lessons!

    EXCERPT: Making my way through the narrow pathways between the tables, I headed back toward the bathroom. Only once I pushed open the double doors and stopped in front of the water-spotted mirror did I realize I’d left my purse at the table, so there’d be no reapplying my lipstick. I pumped soap onto my hands and waved them under the facet. Water flowed, washing away the suds as I slowly lifted my gaze to my reflection. Normally when I looked at myself, I didn’t really pay attention longer than was necessary to put makeup on without ending up looking like a tutorial gone wrong. Standing here now, I really looked at myself, though. I used to wear my hair up all the time, but I’d stopped doing that every day. My hair now hung in waves and the ends curled over the tips of my breasts. I also used to have heavy bangs, but thank God they were long gone. I’d finally learned how to put on eyeliner. That was another miracle. The slight flush of my face darkened my naturally tan skin. My lips were fuller and my nose straight. My hair was parted to sweep to the left so it shielded my cheek…and my cheek didn’t look that bad, especially considering how it looked the first time I’d seen it after…after days in the hospital. Hell, my entire face had been one hot mess. There was a deep indentation in my left cheek, almost like an icepick had been shoved in there, and as I stared at my right jaw line, I was still amazed by what reconstructive plastic surgeons could accomplish. Half my face had literally been pieced back together with an iliac crest graft with a reconstruction plate and a crap ton of dentistry to give me back a full set of functional teeth. Plastic surgeons didn’t have magic wands, but they were magicians. If you weren’t looking at me straight on, you’d have no idea that my right jaw was thinner than my left. You’d have no idea what had happened to me that night. Now I stared back at myself just like I had done that night, six years ago, standing in a bathroom, mere minutes before my entire life came crashing down. It wasn’t that I hated the way I looked now. The fact that I was alive meant I was one of those rare, walking and breathing statistics. But even knowing how lucky I was didn’t change the fact that I felt…deformed. That was a harsh word to use. I didn’t like to whip it out often. Doing so on what was so far a pretty good date was probably not a good idea. Taking a deep breath, I shook my head. I didn’t need my thoughts going in that direction tonight. So far, the dinner had been amazing. Grady was nice and he was cute. I could maybe see myself going out with him again, to an art exhibit, and maybe coffee. And that was what had freaked me out. I was not going to let living freak me out. Nope. I could give him a chance and not worry about whether or not I was settling. Turning from the sink, I dried my hands and then readjusted my hair so it fell forward, over my left shoulder and cheek. I walked out of the bathroom and into the narrow hall, gaze trained on the floor as I took about two steps before I realized someone was standing right outside the door, leaning against the wall. Before I nearly plowed into him. Gasping, I took a step back. All I could see were finely cut black trousers paired with…with old black and white Chucks? What an odd combination, but those shoes reminded me of… I gave a little shake of my head and stepped to the side. “Sorry. Excuse—” “Jillian.” I stopped. Time stopped. Everything stopped except my heart, because it was suddenly pounding in my chest too hard, too fast. That deep, rough voice. I recognized it all the way to my very core. Slowly, I lifted my gaze, already knowing what I was going to see but refusing to believe it. Brock Mitchell stood in front of me.

 I want to thank InkSlingerPR and J. Lynn for providing me with a copy of this novella to read and give an honest review. Receiving this copy for free has not altered or changed my review or opinion. I really love the Wait for You series. So given the opportunity to read about any of the characters, I jump on it. Since I loved Reece so much, and had a smidgen of Colton when I read Reece's book, I knew I'd want more. I'm so glad Lynn decided to write this novella and give it to us! Abby is probably one of my favorite Lynn characters in this series. She's serious but funny and totally endearing. I love that she is no nonsense and tells it like it is. Her honesty is infectious (and completely meshes with Colton's personality). Her experiences cause her some fear, but she is not afraid to face those fears head on when necessary. And she always does the right thing, even if she knows it may put her in danger. Colton knows what he wants. He doesn't beat around the bush. And, like Abby, his honesty makes him all the more sexy. I love that he's not afraid to talk about how Abby affected him all those years ago, even when she thought he didn't. It was wonderful to watch his protection over Abby. Of course this novella has that insta-theme in it but for me it was expected. With such a short story, it's hard to have the characters wait to show their attraction or see that they are meant to be together. And I was good with it because I just wanted a happily ever after, for which I know Lynn is known! The writing was easy to read and I was never bored or wanting to put this story down. The suspense infused into the story made it all the more interesting. There were definitely some heart clenching moments, both between the sheets and on the streets! Overall I really enjoyed this story, and the fact that Lynn even gave us a bit of the other characters we love so much from this series. I hope we get to see a bit of Abby and Colton in the future Wait for You stories! And, while it's nice to know the characters from the other books/novellas for this series, there is no need to read them in order to understand this storyline. Those who have read this series will enjoy this story, and those who haven't will also love how Lynn crafts her characters and plot!

I can't say how excited I was to get a review copy of this book. I received a copy of Wait for You last year at BEA and jumped right in as soon as I got home! I loved it. And then I read Trust in Me as soon as it came out! So to be able to read and review this book was really exciting. And knowing that it is Jase and Theresa's story, well, yeah, I had to read it.

As with the other two books, this cover is so great! I love it's simplicity. It draws you right in and makes you want to know the relationship between these two!

So we got a glimpse of both Theresa (Tess) and Jase in Wait For You. We found out a bit about Tess' past, about how she had a boyfriend who was abusive. It was important to that story because of how it affected her brother, Cam. But all we really get about Jase is that he's a good friend of Cam's. And that he and Theresa have something between them, though we are not sure what. In Be With Me, we find out they shared a kiss. But it never went farther than that and they haven't spoken since.

Be With Me begins in the fall of the following Cam's story. Tess is now attending college with her brother. But for Tess, she's just using school until her knee can heal from it's injury and she can get back to her real passion, dancing. Tess is so head strong. She sticks mostly to herself and doesn't have many friends. She doesn't want to open up to anyone, it seems. But Tess is not afraid to speak her mind and tell people how it is. If she sees a situation that needs tending to, she jumps right in and does what needs to be done. One thing about Tess, she really wears her heart on her sleeve, even when she thinks she does not. Her emotions are so clear for everyone to see. I had a hard time watching her suffer through this book. Wanting her to be happier than she was. Wanting for her to be with the one she wanted to be with the one she loves.
Jase, oh Jase, wow! I thought I could not like a male character more than Cam. Especially after reading Trust in Me. But I was wrong! He seems so carefree. He seems like his life is in order. He has a mom, a dad, a little brother. But things are not all that they seem and Jase hides secrets of this own. A secret that I figured out a bit early on, but did not ruin the story for me. One thing about Jase is once he sets his mind to something, he does it. And he doesn't want things to get in his way. But he's not so good at letting his emotions just be, or at least letting them go where they need to go and following them. He's scared to lose things he's lost in the past. So he has a hard time opening up and letting people in. He puts up the tough exterior when on the inside he really is this soft sweet heart who has had his heart torn into pieces by a tragic past. My heart really did bleed for Jase through much of this story. I was routing for him to be able to realize that loving didn't always mean getting hurt. But his ability to run from situations where he might become emotionally attached was so strong I sometimes wanted to bump him upside his head!

I really liked how this story progressed. Just when you thought things were going to make it to happily ever after, boom, Jennifer throws a wrench in the story. As I was reading, I knew I was only 1/2 way through and could not imagine what she would do to keep me interested in the story. But she put in twists and turns that made the story interesting and kept the pacing going. There's romance, drama, mystery, suspense and even a little betrayal.

Jennifer has made me a fan of contemporary writing. I can honestly say that I really have not loved it in the past. But she is able to make the story interesting and sustain the plot so that things do not head in the direction you think they might go. I love that she can throw in turns that keep you thinking perhaps the end you want to happen just might not be what does happen. I also love how Armentrout is tying this series together with her characters. It reminds me very much of McGarry's Pushing the Limits series, which I absolutely adore.

Bravo to Jennifer for writing yet another story that I completely enjoyed from beginning to end! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book! Armentrout fans will devour this one as they have all her others. Lover's of authors such as McGarry and Cormack are going to really fall for this series!

I have to say that I wasn't sure I would like this. I wasn't ready to read the same story I read with Wait For You. I have been down that road with Beautiful Disaster. And it left a bad taste in my mouth. But that was not the case with this book at all. While the storyline follows what we remember in Wait For You pretty much to the tee, you get so much more from reading Cam's POV. And even though this book is listed as #1.5, don't think you're getting into a novella with this one. It's a full length book that takes you in a different direction than reading what Avery had to say. And despite knowing how the story went, and how it ended, I was not bored at all, so much so I couldn't wait to get to the end! It probably helps that I just love reading the guy's POV in YA books. I find them so much more interesting. They always seem to have a much greater depth to them.

I loved Cam in Wait For You. His cockiness was so enjoyable. So, I wasn't sure if he'd get on my nerves in this book, I was scared of not liking him because of how sure of himself he was. But I was wrong. If anything this book made me love him more, if that was even possible. Yes, he's still cocky, but you also see his underlying insecurities. Lynn opens him up and shows us what's really inside. Just when you thought you couldn't like him more, you do! I think my most favorite thing about Cam is his passion and persistence for what he wants. He's not one to give up. And he's got so many different layers that you didn't get to see in Wait for You, since you only saw him from Avery's perspective.

You also get to see more of his family and friends, which I love. Especially Ollie, who just makes me laugh. We also get a little taste of Jase, though not as much as I would have liked, and Theresa. I can't wait to see where their story goes for sure!

I'm really loving this series, and I have to say that I'm am quickly becoming a contemporary lover, despite the fact that I had so many poor experiences with such books in the last year. I hope this streak will continue, and I have no doubt that Lynn will not disappoint!

I had heard such great things about this series, but I was not sure if I wanted to start it as I've had no luck with contemporary YA reads for a very long time. I'm so glad I picked this one up! Receiving this book for free has in no way influenced my opinion or review.

As I said, my track record with contemporary reads as of late has not been good. I've read so many and haven't been able to give any of them above a 3. So I went into this tentatively with the hope that I would at least like it and it would hold my interest I am SO glad I did! This book was fabulous! I really got drawn into Echo and Noah's story and was routing for their love though out!

I love this cover. Not only do I love this cover, but I love that you can take off the dust jacket and it is printed right on the actual book. It's GORGEOUS! I have never seen a book like this before. It makes me just want to touch it!

What can I say about the characters in this book except that I love them. McGarry does such a great job with developing them and making them so realistic that you just can't help but be drawn in by them!
Echo, she's an interesting girl. She has her secrets, secrets she doesn't even know because she doesn't remember what they are! She is so complicated. You want her to remember, but at the same time you know it will cause her pain. And she seems to be going through so much pain already you really don't want her to experience it! So she keeps to herself, although she does have a few friends, and doesn't let anyone in. That is until she begins to interact with Noah, and is completely dean to him. But her damage prevents her from opening up to him and letting him in for the most part, despite the fact that he wants to know her and what she's about. I was able to completely connect with her and understand her actions.
Noah, well he's the good boy gone bad. Also plagued by a tragic past, he allows himself to be seen as this bad boy who does what he wants when he wants without thinking how the consequences will effect others. But he's broken and really his motive is just to mend his wounds by making sure what he has left of his family is ok. He's fiercely protective and this lends to his charm that draws him to echo. He wants to protect her and understand her. His intentions for both his brothers and Echo are pure, even if a bit misguided.
And the secondary characters are just awesome. I love Isaiah and Beth, even though I don't get much from them. And it would be nice to know more about Echo's friends.

The plot moves along swiftly. There are no slow spots. No spots where I wanted to put the book down or where I rolled my eyes. Did I think sometimes Echo and Noah's reactions were over the top, maybe a bit. But given their tragic pasts, I can understand how they might react at they do. I'm still not sure this would necessarily happen in real life. I haven't been a teen for a very long time so what do I know of from their reactions? I know they can be very over the top at times, so such reactions would not surprise me. And we see some major growth and development from both characters throughout the book, which lends to their likability. They become stronger and more resilient as the book progresses and this makes you want to see their story through more and more.

As for McGarry's writing, well, it's really quite phenomenal. There are no information dumps, things are slowly revealed as you need to know them. She unfolds the story in such a way as to keep you interested and totally curious as to where the characters will end up. I enjoyed watching McGarry show Noah and Echo grow and change and realize they have control over their destinies if only they take the reigns. I love that McGarry chose to give us both Noah and Echo's POVs. It was nice to watch them interact that way and really demonstrated how important it is to see each character through more than one set of eyes!

Overall I truly loved this read. Why the 4 stores, because despite being able to relate to the characters, I did find there was something missing with them, though I can't put my finger on it. Would I recommend this book, absolutely. Would I read other books by this author, no doubt in my mind. McGarry has certainly opened my eyes to what a great contemporary YA read can actually look like!

ARC Review: Frigid by J. Lynn @SpencerHillP @SHContemp @JLArmentrout

This is a book I was anxiously awaiting. So, when I had my chance to get a copy at BEA, you bet I grabbed this one up! And I'm so glad I did.

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love. 

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. So I really must preface this review with the fact that I don't normally enjoy contemporary reads. I have to say that all those I've read in the last year just have not wowed me in any way. So, I didn't go into this book expecting that I would love it, that I would get so engrossed in the story I wouldn't be able to put it down. Well, I was wrong! And this is a testament to J. Lynn's writing for sure. There hasn't been a book I have read from her that I didn't like, that hasn't received anything below a 4. And this book was no exception to that rating system I hold in my head! And it met all my expectations and then some!

First, I have to say that I absolutely love this cover. I love the couple, as they really do remind me of the characters in the book. Often the cover models won't be what is described in the book, but these two are. So that made for a very enjoyable reading experience, indeed.

The characters, WOW! 
Sydney is this strong willed girl who has this soft side for her best friend, Kyler. She seems to have it all together in every aspect of her life except for the love part. She can't seem to separate herself from the fact that she is in love with her best friend who she believes she can never have. For the most part, I found Syd to be very relatable and realistic. She's strong in a different way than most of Armentrout's kickass heroines. Only Jen could write a female lead who sits back and watches her best friend (and love of her life) get it on with every girl on the planet and not ever break in front of him. The only thing that bothered me about Syd was the fact that she seemed kind of oblivious to things. And, while I know this was part of the story, part of the charm of two people who are in love finding each other, it kind of grated on my nerves at times. I wanted to take her by her shoulders and shake her something fierce.
And Kyler, oh my! Lynn really knows how to write her male main leads. He is totally and completely hot ans swoon worthy even though he's this man whore that you just don't think cares about much, except for Syd. He's all abs and chiseled muscles rippling as he moves. And he's suave and knows just the right things to say. He has this attraction to Syd that forces him to want to protect her and keep her safe. To him, he feels this is just part of the friendship. But he soon realizes that underneath his friendship could be something different, something he doesn't want to recognize for fear of being rejection. And, slowly but surely, we start to see a sweet loving guy, who has distanced himself all his life from the one person he thought he could never have, was never good enough to have.

The funny thing about this story is that the reader sees the relationship for what it is immediately. Despite Kyler's tendencies to take other women home and just be a general flirt, and despite Syd's inability to go after what she wants or recognize that it might be something that can actually happen, the two just don't see it. And from the beginning I was routing for the two to get together, to find each other so they could have their happily ever after. After all, it's what we all want, right? They flirt, but they don't call it flirting, because it's just two friends caring about each other. They banter, but it's not because they are attracted to each other, it's because they grew up together and have known each other so long. It's great to watch the relationship take it's turn and watch the characters find out what they really want.

One of the great things about this story is that it is actually a story. Yeah, there's kissing and sex and scenes that are just totally and completely hot, but there's also a background that pulls you through the story, it doesn't just focus on the relationship between Kyler and Syd. I think this is what made me love the story so much. I felt like there was more to it than just the two main characters finally finding each other at some point. And Jen has a way of making the story interesting. You wonder what is going one and why things are happening, although I did figure out who was behind things early on even though the main characters seemed clueless about it.

So once again Armentrout has captured me with one of her stories. And, despite the fact that I am not normally a contemporary reader, I just loved this one. I loved the characters, I loved the plot, I loved how the story moved along and I didn't want to put it down. There is no doubt in my mind that Jen has a true gift when it comes to writing. No matter what she puts her pen to, it comes out gold.
