Welcome to The Cover Contessa's stop on Kelly Hashway's blog tour for
Stalked by Death (Touch of Death #2)
Jodi knows that any slip-ups made by the Ophi--a special group of necromancers born under the 13th sign of the zodiac--will fall on her shoulders... and that Hades is just waiting for them to screw up so he can wipe out the Ophi line.
Unfortunately, Jodi has only convinced one Ophi to join her school: A hot guy named Chase who jeopardizes her relationship with Alex. Jodi loves Alex, but Chase can enhance her powers with just a touch—making her stronger than any Ophi has ever been.
Her mixed emotions send her powers surging out of control, and the dead start rising without her conscious summoning—exactly what Hades doesn't want! If she chooses Alex over Chase, she may lose the battle to Hades, leading the Ophi race to extinction. If she chooses Chase, she might be able to stop Hades for good… but lose everything else.
Jodi needs to figure things out fast--because death is stalking her at every turn.
The Cover Contessa's Review:
I want to thank Spencer Hill Press for providing me with a
copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for
free has in now way altered my opinion or review.
STOP! If you have not read the first book in this series,
there may be spoilers in this review. So turn around and go back and read the
first book if you haven't already!
Who could resist zombies? And what I definitely consider a
type of magic? And Medusa and Hades? Really, I don't think anyone could!
This book picks up right where the first book left off. Jodi
is not head of the Ophi and they are training for their lives. She's busy in
this new role and I can tell she's a bit overwhelmed, as well. It seems she's
not quite sure where she fits in as far as leadership is concerned. She's not
sure about leading all the Ophi, especially the ones who are older and more
well informed than she seems to be. Her goal is to get all the Ophi together
and train so they can fight Hades and make sure they survive. She is with Alex
but a new guy, Chase, threatens to possibly destroy this relationship. She must
decide what she wants and how she's going to go about getting it.
And of course there's a mystery. Who is bad, who is not? Who
is on the Ophi's side, who might betray them? This is something you will wonder
throughout the entire book. And it's not until the end that you find out, and
it was surprising to me as I really wasn't sure until that point if my thoughts
were right.
The plot is certainly full of twists and turns. And Jodi is
torn the entire time trying to be a leader, but also fighting her own battles
of relationships and power struggles. The story tugs you along and makes you
want to know what is going to happen as you turn every page.
I do have to say that I was surprised by the insta-love that
was apparent in this story. While I understood there was this immediate
connection for a reason, I just didn't feel that connection or understand it
until it was explained to me. There's a constant tug of war in Alex and Jodi's
relationship, to the point that it's a little outdone and I was ready for
something to just give. Finally it did, and I was happy!
This book was action packed and fun. A great sequel to the
first. I'm looking forward to the conclusion of the series when Face of Death
comes out!
