Welcome Nashoda! So great to have you with us today! Let's get down the the nitty gritty!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

When I was about twelve, I started writing novels, instead of doing my homework. It was so natural for me to make up characters in my head and then write about them. There was no planning in which direction the story would go, all I needed was a hero and a heroine.

How long does it take you to write a book?

This really varies with each book. The Tear Asunder series I’d been thinking about for a long time, so I had a plan of sorts before I started the book. The actual writing was about three months, then another two months for editing.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Well, I work as a veterinary surgical assistant and run the hospital during the day. Every evening I write and all weekend. Yep, I’m crazy addicted to writing.

How do you balance family and writing?

My pets are my family at home and they totally get it...well most of the time. They love curling up beside me on the couch while I write. I have very supportive parents and brothers that understand if I can’t make it to a social event because I’m deep into a scene and can’t step away.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in writing your books?

Haha, that I could write a sex scene. I really struggled with this. It took some time to figure out how to place body parts without making it sound like an instruction manual. Then I decided to forget about everything, except the emotions of the characters and type whatever came into my head. It worked. Music and a glass of wine always help!

How many books have you written? And which is your favorite?

Published? Or sitting in a cupboard hidden away? I have three paranormal romance novels published and then “With You” the novella and “Torn from You”.
Favorite? That’s hard. I’m so close to Waleron in my Senses series, as he is in all the books and mega Alpha.
I love “With You” the novella because it was so much fun writing. “Torn from You” is dark and I really had to dig deep while writing some of those scenes. I think as a writer, “Torn from You” was the most challenging and I love that. Plus, I really love all the characters. I’m so excited to write the next few books in this series, as well as The Unyielding series.

Are your characters based on anyone you know?

Actually, no. I get asked that all the time. I think there is a little piece of me in every character (not Alfonzo or Raul, lol). But, I’d love to meet a real live Deck ... please.

Do you have a favorite place to write?

Oh on the beach in Greece. Never been, but I bet it would be my favorite place to write. I generally sit on my couch with my laptop. My little Yorkie sleeps beside me and often the cats on top of her, lol.

What do your friends and family think about your books?

My family and friends are so supportive of me for following my dream and never giving up. Many have read “Torn from You”, even if they don’t normally read and they say they love it...they are family and friends though, lol. My mother has read almost every book I’ve written and of course she loves them all, that’s what moms are for. But “Torn from You” is a definite NO READ for my father. Can you imagine?

Do you have any suggestions to help aspiring writers better themselves and their craft? If so, what are they?

I think the number one thing in writing is to show, don’t tell. Let a character’s actions show how he is feeling. This really helps connect a reader to the character because it’s no longer just an author’s words on a page.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

My dream was always to be a writer. But I did know that it was a farfetched dream, so even though I continued to write, I was practical. So, for a career I wanted to be a veterinarian.

What are your favorite books and which authors inspire you?

Outlander is my favorite book of all time. Talk about connecting to the characters...I felt like I was living there with them. I read the book several times and I never re-read books as there are too many on my TBR list. I even bought the audio and wow that is even better. Davina Porter’s voice is magical! I adore R.K. Lilley, Madeleine Sheehan, Sherrilyn Kenyon, K. Bromberg, Carmen Jenner, Gail McHugh to name a few. I think Colleen Hoover is a brilliant writer.

What are you working on?

Kat and Ream’s story “Overwhelmed by You”. I’m also taking notes for the first book of the Unyielding series with Deck and Georgie and Kai and Raven. I can’t wait to write them.
I also have a couple extra scenes I’m working on, but that is a surprise. Ahhh, I need more time in the day.

Thank you so much for the interview, Adrianna.

Cheers,
Nash
